Dawn of War: Codex Chapters readme

Welcome to this first edition of the Codex Chapters custom Badges and Banners for Relic's game
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

There's quite a bit in here to get you started in building up your Adeptus Astartes Chapters, but before we get started, let's go through the technical stuff.

In creating this zip file, I've retained the default file structure of the game, so if you performed a default install of the game, all you will have to do is to unzip the file to your root directory "C:\". That will take all of the badges and place them in the "badges" folder, the banners in the "banners" folder and the .teamcolour information in the correct location as well.

A special note regarding the .teamcolour information.

When you create your own color scheme using the Army Painter, that information is saved as part of your profile and given a numerical reference. If you don't know where this stuff is kept, you'll find it here:

C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War\profiles\profile1\w40k\schemes

Each new army you create is labeled "Scheme_XX.teamcolour" where the "XX" portion represents an increasing sequence of numbers (ie 1,2,3,4 and so on). I've modified the naming of those schemes to reflect the actual Space Marine Chapter name since if I left it with the default names from my system, it would have wiped out the Chapters that you had created!!!

Point being that you're going to have to go into the schemes folder and re-name those Chapters that you want to add to the correct format. It's really not all that hard, but it is a bit time consuming. It's worth putting in the time on the front end though, because when you're done you'll have several new Space Marine Chapters done and ready to go!

Now on to the good stuff.....

With a couple of exceptions, all of the Chapter Badges and Banners are of my own work. I didn't put a LOT of work into them because in the heat of a battle, the details on a badge or banner isn't going to be your primary focus. I've also taken extensively from the existing Warhammer 40k universe and credit for those designs rests exclusively with Games Workshop. However, there is one person who DOES put time and effort into his badges and banners, and that is Nottingham, from the Dawn of War Planet forums. I've included 3 of his badge/banner sets in this pack as I'm using them myself. Those Chapters for which he gets full credit are the Celestial Lions, the Raptors and the White Panthers.

With that being said, here's what you're going to get in this pack:

Angels Encarmine - Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels
Angels of Absolution - Successor Chapter of the Dark Angels
Angels of Vengeance - Another successor Chapter of the Dark Angels
Angels Vermillion - Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels
Aurora Chapter - Successors of the Ultramarines
Black Consuls - Ultramarine successor
Black Templars - Imperial Fist successor, probably the most rigid Chapter in existence!
Blood Drinkers - Blood Angels successor
Celestial Lions - Nottingham from the Dawn of War Planet forums is responsible for this awesome badge and banner!
Crimson Fists - Imperial Fists successor. You don't see much of them anymore, but anyone who remembers Rogue Trader.....
Doom Eagles - It was a cool looking badge
Doom Warriors - same here
Emperor's Scythes - My first introduction to these guys was in the game "Tyrannid Attack".
Exorcists - Loyal Chapter during the Badab War
Fire Angels - Same as the Exorcists, another loyal Chapter fighting the renegades in the Badab War
Fleshtearers - Blood Angels successor. These guys have some.... shall we say... nasty habits.
Genesis Chapter - Ultramarine Successors
Lamenters - Blood Angels successors from the Cursed 26th Founding. This badge was too cool NOT to include!
Mantis Warriors - One of the rebel Chapters from the Badab War along with the Lamenters
Rainbow Warriors - Another Rogue Trader Chapter. Had to include these guys as well for us old farts!
Rampagers - White Scars successor Chapter
Raptors - Another one from Nottingham. The Raptors are a Raven Guard successor
Salamanders - All I've done here is to use an older style badge, along with a more custom banner
Silver Skulls - Another Ultramarine successor Chapter.
White Consuls - Ultramarine Successor Chapter
White Panthers - Another Nottingham exclusive.

I've saved the best for last. Since I was a big Dark Angels player back in the day when I still played WH40k, I'm still very partial to them. As such I re-created the Company Banners for the Dark Angels and have used the Army Painter to set up each Company.

You will therefore have "Chapter" listings for Dark Angels Companies 3 through 9. You will ALSO have a listing for Ravenwing and Deathwing. Obviously there's no way that we can re-create exactly those two specialized Companies of the Dark Angels, but they are there in case you want to try. I myself haven't created 20 points worth of Land Speeders, but it should be a lot of fun to try!!!

I've also added the Dark Angels Chapter Banners as well, so you'll have the the Dark Angels Banner, the Devastation Banner, the Fortitude Banner and the Retribution Banner. In case you want to customize your Dark Angels even further, I've included the personal banners for Belial, Chapter Master of the Dark Angels, Asmodai, Azrael, Sammael and Sheol.

Finally, I want to offer up my personal thanks to Relic, THQ and Games Workshop Interactive for this amazing game! I was beginning to doubt whether or not any company out there could ever do justice to the look and feel of the 40k Universe. These guys have done it. Not only that, they've created a game that has upped the standards for the RTS genre as a whole. Well done and thanks again.

Anyone with questions or comments about this pack should visit the Dawn of War Planet forums at http://wh40k.mednickonline.com/

Good luck and above all.... Have Fun!
